Baltic Porter Day - Old Black Mountain Beer Release

We are releasing our newest beer on January 20th in honor of Baltic Porter Day. This is a traditional Baltic Porter. But you may be asking what is special about a Baltic Porter and how does it differ from other styles, so here is a quick history lesson.

Baltic Porter is a style of beer that originated in the Baltic region of Europe, which includes countries like Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Russia. The style dates back to the 18th century, and its history is closely tied to the development of strong, dark beers in the Baltic states.

The Baltic Porter is believed to have evolved from the British Porter. In the 18th century, British brewers were exporting beers to the Baltic region. To withstand the long and challenging journey, these beers were brewed with higher alcohol content and a generous amount of hops for preservation.

Baltic Porters typically have a higher alcohol content compared to traditional porters. They are known for their rich and complex flavors, featuring notes of chocolate, toffee, caramel, and dark fruits. Despite their strength, they often have a smooth and clean finish.

Baltic Porter is a strong, dark beer. Not as roasted as an Imperial Stout, and more drinkable. It has notes of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, caramel. It should be balanced, not too sweet, and not too bitter.

Old Black Mountain is our take on this classic style. It rings in at 8.4% and is the perfect beer to warm you on a cold winter night. Dark as midnight but smooth as silk. The residual body and extended lagering time result in a remarkably clean finishing, high gravity beer.
